Goldstein Dental Center Provides Crowns and Caps to Our Atlanta Patients
Damaged, cracked, and unevenly spaced teeth should not hold you back from loving your smile or feeling confident in front of the camera and around your peers. Whether you stop your smile, hold in your laugh, or try to minimize talking, Dr. Goldstein recommends crowns and caps to help make a positive change to bring your confidence back.
Dr. Goldstein understands the concerns of his patients seeking natural-looking improvements to their teeth, and, for this reason, he recommends crowns (also known as caps) for restoring damaged or discolored teeth. With your newly fitted crowns, you won’t have to hide your smile any longer.
What Are Dental Crowns and Caps?
Crowns are tooth-like covers that are placed over the teeth for a variety of reasons to improve their appearance or functionality. If your tooth is damaged, cracked, broken, or worn down, a crown can be used to rebuild your tooth. If your tooth is weak or the majority of your tooth is a filling, a crown can help to strengthen and protect your teeth. If your teeth are discolored, a crown can provide a consistent shade throughout your whole smile. Crowns are a permanent solution to all of these common dental complaints, and Atlanta cosmetic dentist Dr. Goldstein is dedicated to ensuring your results are worth smiling about.
There is a variety of different types of materials used for crowns, depending on your individual needs and desires. These materials include porcelain/metal, all porcelain, all resin, and all gold. When you meet with Dr. Goldstein, be sure to express your expectations for your new crowns with regard to durability and how natural you wish your crowns to be. Often times, your expectations for the crown depends on the location in which it is being placed.
What Do Crowns and Caps Involve?
Before receiving a crown, Dr. Goldstein may first examine your current teeth with an x-ray. Often times, your tooth will then be shaped to best fit a crown. This might involve filing around the tooth so the crown can fit over it or putting in filling material if part of your tooth is missing.
Once your tooth is prepared, Dr. Goldstein will make an impression of your teeth to create the crown. He may then place a short-term crown with temporary paste over your tooth to protect it until your crown is ready to be permanently put in a few weeks later.
When your permanent crown is created, local anesthesia will be administered, and your new crown will be placed over your tooth with cementing paste.
